Uttarakhand Congress MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari Joins BJP Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

In a significant blow to the grand-old party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Uttarakhand Congress MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.

Bhandari, a three-term Congress legislator and a former minister in the state government, made the switch to the BJP in the presence of key party leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal and BJP’s national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam. Gautam, who is also the BJP’s in-charge for Uttarakhand, played a prominent role in the induction process.

The event also saw the participation of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and BJP’s chief spokesperson Anil Baluni, who is a Rajya Sabha member and will contest his first Lok Sabha election from the Garhwal seat in Uttarakhand.

Bhandari, who represented the Badrinath constituency in the Uttarakhand Assembly, reportedly tendered his resignation from the Congress before formally joining the BJP.
