US Woman Found Chained to Tree in Maharashtra Forest After Domestic Dispute

A 50-year-old woman from the United States was discovered chained to a tree in a forest in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district on Saturday. The woman, identified as Lalita Kayi Kumar S, is a resident of Tamil Nadu and originally from the US.

According to local police, Kumar was allegedly chained by her husband following a domestic dispute. She was found by a shepherd in Sonurli village who heard her cries and notified authorities.

The woman was found with her leg bound to a tree with a chain. Emergency services provided first aid at the scene before transporting her to a primary healthcare center in Sawantwadi taluka. She was subsequently referred to a more advanced medical facility in Oros.

Doctors treating Kumar reported that she appeared to be suffering from psychiatric issues. She communicated her condition by writing on a piece of paper, revealing that she had been without food for 40 days. In her message, she claimed her husband had abandoned her in the forest after a quarrel.

Maharashtra Police have yet to register a formal FIR, but an investigation is underway. A police official stated, β€œThe woman is currently too weak to provide a full statement. She has not eaten for several days and has also been exposed to heavy rains. We are uncertain about the exact duration she was tied up.”

The case highlights severe issues of domestic violence and mental health, prompting ongoing investigations by local authorities.
