Mumbai police have taken legal action against social media influencer Urfi Javed for tarnishing their reputation with a fabricated video of her arrest, an official confirmed. The video, titled ‘Urfi Javed arrested,’ went viral, depicting a woman supposedly being apprehended by Mumbai Police in connection with an obscenity case. However, the police stated that this video was entirely false and that both their insignia and uniform had been misrepresented.
The police further explained, “A criminal case has been registered against those involved in the misleading video, at Oshiwara Police Station, under sections 171, 419, 500, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).” The statement also mentioned, “While further investigations are underway, the imposter posing as an inspector has been taken into custody, and the vehicle has been impounded as well.”
Section 171 of the IPC addresses the offense of ‘wearing garb or carrying a token used by a public servant with fraudulent intent,’ while section 419 pertains to cheating through personation.”
