UP Policeman Killed in Road Mishap After Swerving to Save Stray Dog

A Uttar Pradesh police constable lost his life in a tragic road accident after his attempt to save a stray dog caused him to fall from his motorcycle and get run over by a car.

The incident occurred late Monday evening in Aligarh district when the officer, identified as Constable Satyaveer Singh, was returning from duty. According to eyewitnesses, a stray dog suddenly ran across the road, prompting Singh to swerve sharply in an effort to avoid hitting it. He lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the road, where he was struck by an oncoming car.

Local police officials said Singh sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The car driver stopped at the scene and has since been taken in for questioning, though no foul play is suspected.

“This is an unfortunate and heartbreaking loss,” said a senior police officer in Aligarh. “Constable Singh died while acting out of compassion, trying to avoid harm to an animal. His dedication and humanity will be remembered.”

The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the busy road as authorities cleared the scene. Colleagues and residents gathered to pay their respects, describing Singh as a responsible officer who was widely admired for his service.

The incident has also reignited debate around road safety hazards caused by stray animals, a recurring challenge in many parts of Uttar Pradesh. Activists have called for stronger measures to manage stray populations and better lighting and signage on highways to reduce accidents.

Constable Singh’s body was later handed over to his family, and police officials said funeral rites would be conducted with full honours.
