Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakashi Lekhi, provided insights into the preparations and highlights of the G20 Summit, which is being held under India’s presidency. In an exclusive interview, Lekhi emphasized the crucial role of various departments, including paramilitary forces and the Delhi police, in ensuring the safety and security of leaders and foreign dignitaries attending the summit.
Lekhi highlighted the diversity of the G20 Summit, which includes 52 locations and over 250 events. She stressed the importance of meticulous logistical planning to manage such a complex gathering successfully.
The minister also discussed the cuisine offered at the summit, which catered to all the senses, incorporating regional flavors adapted to international tastes and showcasing India’s cultural richness.
Acknowledging India’s vast cultural heritage, Lekhi noted the challenge of selecting what to showcase during the summit, describing it as a “problem of plenty.”
The G20 Summit, scheduled for September 9 and 10, will bring together leaders and delegates from 40 countries, including the 20 member states. It will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
Delhi Traffic Police conducted a full dress rehearsal as part of its preparations for the G20 Summit, while the Delhi Police has been training personnel to handle various aspects of the event, including potential hazards and security measures.
The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will conclude the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. A G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted, reflecting the leaders’ commitments to the priorities discussed during the summit.
