In a heartbreaking incident, two members of a family were fatally shot, and four others sustained injuries in Punjabi Mohalla, situated under the Kabaiya police station in Lakhisarai district, Bihar, on Monday morning. The unfortunate event occurred as the victims were returning home after offering prayers at Chhath Ghat.
According to the police, the violence erupted over a matter related to a love affair. The injured individuals were initially rushed to Begusarai Sadar Hospital but were later referred to Patna for further medical treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar and Rajnandan Kumar, while the injured include Lovely Kumari, Preeti Kumari, Durga Kumari, and Shashi Bhushan Kumar—all reported to be family members.
Pankaj Kumar, SP Lakhisarai, provided details, stating, “Two members of a family were shot dead and four others were injured in Punjabi Mohalla under the Kabaiya police station of Lakhisarai. The incident took place when they were returning from Chhath Ghat after performing Pooja.”
“Three injured have been referred from Begusarai Sadar Hospital to Patna. The matter is related to a love affair. Police have reached the spot, and an investigation is underway,” he added.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and recovered a pistol used in the crime. The incident has left the local community in shock and sorrow, particularly as it unfolded during the significant Chhath Puja celebrations in Bihar.
