In a distressing incident, a 16-year-old boy in Mumbai’s Malad Malwani area reportedly took his own life after his father purportedly intervened to stop him from playing games on his mobile device, according to the police.
Details provided by law enforcement revealed that the teenager, facing restrictions on his mobile game indulgence, succumbed to suicide at his residence. The father, acknowledging his son’s mobile game addiction, informed the police that the boy would often engage in gaming late into the night.
On Thursday around 11:30 pm, the father confiscated the boy’s phone and directed him to retire for the night. A police officer stated, “The child, in response, threatened to harm himself if he wasn’t allowed to play mobile games.” The following morning, the father discovered his son hanging by a scarf from the ceiling. Despite immediate efforts to seek medical assistance by rushing the boy to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
The Malwani Police recorded the father’s statement and initiated an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in connection with the incident. Further details are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
