Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, known for her fiery parliamentary speeches, has married Pinaki Misra, a senior Supreme Court lawyer and former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP from Odisha. The couple tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in Berlin on May 30, 2025, confirmed by Moitra from Germany.

Moitra, 50, a two-term MP from Krishnanagar, previously worked as a banker in London and New York before entering politics. She was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson and later had a public breakup with lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai amid the “cash-for-query” allegations that led to her expulsion from the Lok Sabha in late 2023.

Born in Assam’s Cachar district, Moitra graduated in economics and mathematics from a US college before joining politics. She started with Congress in 2008, leading Rahul Gandhi’s “common man’s soldier” campaign, then joined TMC in 2010. She first won a legislative seat in 2016 and made a strong impact in Parliament from 2019 with speeches critical of the BJP government.

About Pinaki Misra

Pinaki Misra is a veteran politician from Odisha and a senior Supreme Court lawyer. He served as Congress MP for Puri in 1996 before joining Naveen Patnaik’s BJD, winning the Puri seat again in 2009 and 2014. Misra is from a prominent Odia Brahmin family with a legacy of public service: his grandfather Godabarish Misra was a Gandhian poet and socialist; his father Lokanath Misra was a two-term MLA and former governor of Assam; and his uncle Ranganath Misra and cousin Dipak Misra both served as Chief Justices of India.

Misra also faced controversy during the “cash-for-query” scandal but denied the allegations and threatened legal action against the BJP.
