Tis Hazari Court Urges Prompt Forensic Results in Swiss Woman Murder Case

The Tis Hazari Court in New Delhi, on Monday, issued directives to the Forensic Science Lab (FSL), Delhi, to accelerate the pending FSL results concerning the Swiss woman murder case. The case has reached the stage of framing charges following the submission of the charge sheet in January, with an awaited FSL report.

This case pertains to the alleged murder of a Swiss woman in the Tilak Nagar area in October 2023, for which the Delhi police have already filed a charge sheet. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Vijay Shankar instructed the FSL director to expedite the results and scheduled the next hearing for May 15.

Previously, on January 30, the court had served notice to the FSL Director, directing the expeditious submission of the FSL report before the subsequent hearing. ASJ Vijay Shankar reiterated this order on the same date, also requiring the SHO of Tilak Nagar police station to provide a corresponding report. Additionally, notice was served to the Investigation Officer (IO) for the forthcoming hearing.

Advocate Rajiv Jha, representing the accused Gurpreet Singh alias Mandeep Singh, appeared as the Legal Aid Counsel (LAC). The court also requested the Secretary, DLSA, West District, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi, to appoint a legal aid counsel for the accused.

On January 15, the court acknowledged the charge sheet filed against Gurpreet Singh for the alleged murder of Swiss woman Nina Berger. Singh was apprehended on October 21 and the charge sheet comprised sections 302, 201, 404, 482, 411 of the Indian Penal Code, related to murder, evidence concealment, and other offenses.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed meeting the victim through a social media platform several years ago, leading to a relationship. However, his feelings were not reciprocated as the victim had another partner. Subsequently, Singh lured her to India from Switzerland under false pretenses, ultimately ending her life.

The police recovered Rs 1.5 crore from the accused, allegedly obtained through property sales.
