Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao Meets Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Seeks Transfer of Land for Infrastructure Projects

Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday to discuss the transfer of defence land in Hyderabad for the construction of elevated skyways, corridors, and link roads aimed at alleviating traffic congestion.

After the meeting, Rao told reporters, “We have sought defence land for four major development works in Hyderabad. We are hopeful that the defence minister will accept our demand.”

One of the proposed projects is an elevated corridor stretching from Paradise junction to Outer Ring Road junction near Kandlakoya on national highway-44. This 7.5-kilometer stretch, a heavily congested route in Hyderabad, requires approximately 56.19 acres of defence land, as per a survey conducted.

Additionally, Rao requested the transfer of defence land for the creation of link roads and widening of existing roads. The state government aims to construct corridors at Golconda and Ibrahimbagh, while also undertaking road widening projects at Banjara Hills, Kanchanbagh, Zohra Bee dargah, Mohammadi Lane, and Andhra Flour Mill.

“These projects are important for the fast-developing city of Hyderabad. Additional skyways and corridors are required to ease traffic, and we need support from the Centre. I told the defence minister that the state government is ready to provide land in exchange for defence land,” Rao stated.

Rao expressed that these demands were raised with the Centre several months ago and the state government has consistently followed up on them, but no progress has been made thus far.

Furthermore, Rao is scheduled to meet Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday to discuss proposals concerning metro and bridge projects. He has also requested a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address related matters.
