Sonia Gandhi Convenes Congress Parliamentary Strategy Meeting

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has called for a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary Strategy group on Tuesday, preparing for the upcoming special session of Parliament. This gathering will focus on the party’s approach to address questions and issues expected to arise during the parliamentary session.

Sonia Gandhi’s return to political action follows her discharge from Delhi’s Sir Gangaram Hospital on Monday. She had been admitted to the hospital with mild fever symptoms on Sunday.

Additionally, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has convened a meeting with MPs from the INDIA alliance to deliberate on the strategy for the special parliamentary session.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi previously announced a five-day special session of Parliament scheduled from September 18 to 22. While the specific agenda for this special session has not been disclosed, it has created a buzz in political circles, particularly as parties are gearing up for upcoming assembly elections in five states later this year.

The Centre’s decision to form an eight-member committee to examine and propose recommendations for simultaneous elections in the country has also added to the political discourse. The committee includes notable figures such as former President Ram Nath Kovind, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and others.

Traditionally, the winter session of Parliament commences in the last week of November, making the announcement of a special session a noteworthy development in India’s political landscape.
