In a significant development, Neelam Gorhe, a party leader and Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday. Gorhe, who was a member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), switched sides and joined the rival faction in the presence of Chief Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This move comes as another setback for the Shiv Sena (UBT) party.
During the Business Advisory Committee meeting of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, BJP MLC Pravin Darekar proposed to withdraw the previously filed no-confidence motion against Gorhe for the post of Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council. Darekar’s proposal received support from party MLC Prasad Lad.
Addressing the official induction meeting, Gorhe expressed her belief that the Shiv Sena is moving in the right direction under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. Chief Minister Shinde described the event as a historic moment, emphasizing the strength of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.
Shinde highlighted the party’s accomplishments, stating that the Shiv Sena’s growing strength and the continuous influx of new members are a testament to the party’s effective work. He clarified that Gorhe’s decision to join the Shiv Sena is not a defection but a move to join the original Sena. Shinde also commended Gorhe’s future contributions to the welfare of women, enabling her to work with dedication.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the nation towards becoming a superpower, and the state believes it has a role to play in this journey. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that the Shiv Sena and BJP share a common ideology. He expressed his personal presence at the induction meeting to welcome Gorhe into the alliance and praised her decision as rational.
