Shashi Tharoor Questions BJP’s Core Message Amidst Ram Mandir and BAPS Temple Inaugurations

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed skepticism about the BJP’s core message, linking the upcoming consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi. Tharoor took to social media to pose questions directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the status of promises such as ‘Acche Din’ and the commitment to economic development.

Tharoor’s remarks, following the Prime Minister’s acceptance of an invitation to inaugurate the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi in February 2024, highlighted the perceived shift in the BJP’s messaging strategy. He emphasized the transformation from projecting Modi as an economic development leader in 2009 to a focus on national security in 2019, following events like demonetization and the Pulwama terrorist attack.

The post on social media raised concerns about the BJP reverting to its core message and presenting Modi as a “Hindu Hriday Samrat” in the upcoming elections. Tharoor underscored the need for debate on unfulfilled promises related to job creation, economic growth, and the well-being of the socio-economic lower strata.

The critical remarks gain significance as the Congress faces pressure from coalition partners, including the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), to distance itself from the grand events. Notably, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has declined an invitation to the consecration ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has extended invitations to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge for the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony.
