Samajwadi Party to Contest Madhya Pradesh Assembly Polls, Expects Strong Performance

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has announced that his party will participate in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled for this year. Expressing confidence, Akhilesh stated that the SP is poised to perform better than in the 2003 Assembly polls, during which the party secured seven MLAs.

In preparation for the state elections, the SP chief convened a meeting with the party’s Madhya Pradesh workers on Monday and declared the decision to contest the assembly polls this time.

Akhilesh Yadav, while attending an Opposition meeting in Bengaluru, expressed his expectations for a massive defeat for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that two-thirds of the population will stand against the BJP, leading to a significant setback for the ruling party.

In the context of Madhya Pradesh, the Congress is the primary challenger to the ruling BJP. The Congress emerged victorious in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh elections, but the political landscape changed when Jyotiraditya Scindia, a prominent leader in the state, switched sides and joined the BJP, leading to the fall of the Kamal Nath-led state government and the rise of Shivraj Singh Chouhan to power.

The upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls are expected to witness intense competition between the Congress and the ruling BJP. Additionally, four other state assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Meghalaya will be closely watched as they set the tone for the General elections in 2024.
