Saket Court Takes Cognizance of Delhi Police’s Charge Sheet Against Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Three Others in Extortion Case

Delhi’s Saket court has recently acknowledged the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police, who have accused gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and three other individuals in an extortion case. Bishnoi was arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch on May 31 in connection with this case, which was initially registered at the Sunlight Colony police station and later transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Shivani Chauhan has listed the matter for consideration and hearing on the point of charge. The court stated on July 13 that there is sufficient material evidence to show prima facie that Bishnoi, along with Sampat Nehra, Ashish, and Haren, committed an offense punishable under sections 386/387 IPC read with 120B IPC. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on August 31.

The case revolves around firing incidents and extortion calls made to an advocate in South East Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area. The complaint was filed by advocate Ramandeep Singh on April 24. He alleged that an unknown international number called him on the intervening night of March 23-24, demanding Rs. one crore from him. Subsequently, he received multiple threatening calls from the same international number targeting his family.

During the investigation, Delhi Police Crime Branch extensively interrogated Lawrence Bishnoi while in custody. Akshay, another accused, allegedly provided the arms and ammunition used to threaten the victim in this case.

The police also aimed to gather information about accused Kapil alias Nandu and how Lawrence Bishnoi directed Akshay despite being incarcerated. Sampat Nehra was arrested on June 2 and later sent to judicial custody after nine days of police custody.

According to the Delhi Police, Akshay supplied arms and ammunition and facilitated the stay of accused Haren and two Child CCLs (Children in conflict with the law) involved in the commission of the crime. It was revealed that Lawrence Bishnoi gave directions to Akshay for executing the plan and providing arms to the aforementioned accused individuals.

Additionally, one of the accused, Kapil alias Nandu, is reported to be outside India and allegedly provided information to Lawrence Bishnoi to aid in the execution of the plan.
