Reckless Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol in Puducherry Results in Multiple Injuries and Arrests

Authorities in Puducherry have reported the apprehension of five individuals on charges of reckless driving and negligence while under the influence of alcohol. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, resulted in numerous injuries and extensive damage to vehicles. The individuals in question, residents of Medavakkam in Chennai’s southern suburb, were visiting Puducherry as tourists.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accused were driving a car on Nehru Road at high speeds in an inebriated state. The reckless driving led to collisions with incoming two-wheelers along the one-way street lined with stores. Onlookers, alarmed by the dangerous situation, immediately began chasing the car. After successfully intercepting the vehicle, they handed over the accused to the police.

“The five accused continued driving for nearly five kilometers without stopping, despite attempts from both the police and civilians to apprehend them,” officials stated. It was during this pursuit that the front left tire of the car burst, eventually forcing the vehicle to come to a halt near Narikuruvar Colony in the Lawspet area.

The City Traffic Police promptly registered a case against the five individuals under the appropriate sections of the law. Further investigations into the incident are currently underway.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and highlights the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure public safety. The authorities will continue their efforts to hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
