Rajasthan Minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary Comments Uttarakhand CM Dhami for UCC Bill

In a recent development in the Uttarakhand Assembly, Rajasthan Minister Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary expressed gratitude to Uttarakhand CM Dhami for initiating the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. Choudhary emphasized the significance of the matter, stating that the people of India had been eagerly awaiting this legislation. He revealed that efforts were underway to ensure Rajasthan follows suit after Uttarakhand in implementing the UCC Bill. Choudhary noted the CM’s support, stating that directions had been given for prompt action. The minister assured that the Bill would be discussed in the current session, and if time constraints arose, it would be brought up in the next session.

However, not everyone is convinced of the government’s intentions. Rafeek Khan, an opposition figure, questioned the timing of the UCC discussion, alleging political motives. Khan accused the ruling party of raising issues like the UCC just before elections to sway voters. He pointed out the ten-year timeframe during which, according to him, the government failed to address such matters. Khan drew parallels with past instances, such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during elections in Eastern India.

Regarding the provision of a jail term in the UCC, Rafeek Khan expressed skepticism, stating that he believes the government will not implement any changes after the elections. He asserted that the statements made are merely tactics to influence voters during the electoral season. Khan argued that the ruling party, fearing a loss of majority, is resorting to divisive tactics. He highlighted the opposition’s momentum, citing Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra gaining popularity, and claimed that the ruling party is making such statements out of fear of losing the elections. According to Khan, the government’s actions are driven by a desire to create division and capitalize on it for electoral gains.
