Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot seeks intervention from Kota MP Om Birla to expedite the airport project.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has raised concerns over what he perceives as the BJP-led central government’s interference in the construction of an airport in Kota.
Accompanied by Urban Development and Housing Department Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal, CM Gehlot visited the proposed site of the Kota Airport on Thursday. During this visit, he expressed his frustration with the central government’s stance on the project.
Addressing reporters, CM Gehlot stated, “The Central Government is creating obstacles in the construction of Kota Airport. Kota MP and Speaker Om Birla should intervene in this matter and proceed with its construction in a timely manner.”
He further emphasized, “However, if Om Birla cannot help in this, then we will take up this work and move forward.”
Drawing a comparison to the successful completion of the Kishangarh Airport in Rajasthan, Gehlot underscored the need for the timely completion of the Kota Airport. He revealed that construction on Kishangarh Airport commenced nearly two decades ago and is now fully operational. The Chief Minister argued that despite substantial progress in Kota, the lack of proper transportation facilities, such as an airport, hinders tourism in the region.
Gehlot emphasized that the establishment of an airport in Kota is crucial for the growth of tourism in the area, benefitting visitors from Mumbai, Delhi, and even London. He called upon Om Birla, who serves as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and represents Kota as its Member of Parliament, to intervene in the matter.
“The Central government can easily provide Rs 50-100 crore for the construction of the airport if the Speaker asks them to do so. It is not a huge amount for the Centre,” Gehlot asserted.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister’s plea reflects the significance of infrastructure development, particularly airports, in boosting tourism and regional growth.
