Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi’s Response to Manipur Crisis, Urges Action Over Words

In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized his recent speech in the Lok Sabha during a no-confidence motion. Rahul Gandhi expressed his dismay over the Prime Minister’s lighthearted demeanor and remarks while Manipur faced a tumultuous situation.

Gandhi’s comments came as he asserted, “Watching the PM spend two hours talking about the Opposition and making ridiculous remarks about the coalition name I.N.D.I.A. is ‘tragic,’ adding that this does not do ‘justice to an Indian Prime Minister.'”

During a press briefing at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi, Gandhi elaborated on his concerns, stating, “Yesterday the PM spoke in Parliament for about 2 hours and 13 minutes. In the end, he spoke on Manipur for 2 minutes. Manipur has been burning for months, people are being killed, and rapes are happening but the PM was laughing, cracking jokes. It doesn’t behove him…”

Gandhi further criticized the Prime Minister’s understanding of his role, emphasizing, “When the Prime Minister becomes a Prime Minister, he ceases to be a politician. He becomes the representative of the country. The politics should be put aside and the Prime Minister should not speak as a petty politician, or like a leader of a political party but the Prime Minister should speak with the weight of the Indian people behind him.”

He lamented the Prime Minister’s focus on political matters and his failure to address the pressing issues in Manipur, where violence and unrest have persisted for months. Gandhi urged Prime Minister Modi to prioritize the nation over political rhetoric.

Regarding the situation in Manipur, Gandhi emphasized that the Indian Army has the capability to restore normalcy swiftly. He criticized the Prime Minister’s approach, stating, “Indian Army can stop this nonsense, drama in two days but PM wants to burn Manipur and does not want to extinguish the fire.”

Gandhi also called for Prime Minister Modi’s direct engagement with the strife-torn state and its communities, urging him to transcend political considerations. He reiterated his concerns about the divisions within Manipur based on ethnic lines, reflecting on his recent visit to the state.

In conclusion, Gandhi’s comments highlight the need for urgent action to address the complex and challenging situation in Manipur, while advocating for a more statesman-like approach from the Prime Minister that prioritizes the well-being and unity of the nation.
