Progress Accelerates on Kota Greenfield Airport, Says MP Om Birla

Om Birla, the Member of Parliament from Kota-Bundi, announced on Wednesday that the construction of the proposed greenfield airport in Kota is advancing rapidly.

Accompanied by officials from the Airport Authority of India, Birla visited the site of the proposed airport located in Shambupura village of Bundi district.

He stated that the formalities for land allotment for the proposed airport have been finalized, and a Memorandum of Understanding for the relocation of high-tension power lines was signed on the same day.

Birla informed reporters that the process of shifting the power lines would commence soon.

Furthermore, he mentioned that work on preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the airport is currently in progress.

Situated approximately 15 km from Kota and 20 km from Bundi, Birla emphasized that once completed, the airport would significantly contribute to the region’s development.

The demand for a regular airport with commercial flights in Kota has been a longstanding issue, often featuring prominently in election campaigns. It was a key topic during the 2018 assembly polls as well as the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

Each year, over two lakh students migrate to Kota to prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams such as JEE and NEET. Many of them travel from distant areas and currently have to reach Kota via New Delhi, Jaipur, or Udaipur due to the absence of a regular airport in the region.
