President Droupadi Murmu has described Operation Sindoor as a powerful testament to humanity’s united stand against terrorism, using her Independence Day eve address to call for collective global action to eliminate extremist violence.
Speaking from Rashtrapati Bhavan on the eve of the nation’s 79th Independence Day, the President said the recent mission which saw India lead a complex international evacuation and counter-terrorism operation in a conflict-hit region embodied the country’s commitment to safeguarding innocent lives beyond its borders.
“Operation Sindoor was not merely a military or rescue mission,” Murmu told the nation. “It was a reaffirmation that humanity must stand together against those who spread fear, destroy peace, and target the most vulnerable. This operation showed that India’s strength lies not only in its defence capabilities but in its moral courage to do what is right.”
The President highlighted the courage of armed forces personnel and civilian agencies who risked their lives to ensure the safe evacuation of both Indian citizens and foreign nationals trapped in the crisis zone. She noted that the mission’s success had drawn praise from multiple governments and humanitarian organisations.
Murmu also used the occasion to reiterate India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, urging international partners to strengthen cooperation in intelligence sharing, border security, and the prosecution of extremist networks.
Beyond security concerns, the President’s speech touched on the nation’s economic progress, social welfare schemes, and the importance of unity in diversity, calling on citizens to uphold democratic values and contribute to nation-building.
“India’s tricolour will always fly high not only because we defend our own sovereignty, but because we stand for justice, compassion, and the belief that peace must prevail over violence,” Murmu said.
Operation Sindoor, launched earlier this year, was carried out in coordination with multiple allied nations and international agencies. While operational details remain classified, defence officials have confirmed it involved both air and sea assets, as well as extensive logistical planning.
Murmu concluded her address with a message of resilience and optimism, reminding citizens that India’s independence was won through unity and sacrifice and that the same spirit must guide the country in meeting future challenges.
