Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Rajnath Singh, and Dr Jitendra Singh, as well as actor Aamir Khan and other dignitaries, inaugurated the newly constructed International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex, named ‘Bharat Mandapam,’ in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Prior to the inauguration, PM Modi participated in a Havan and Puja ceremony at the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) complex to mark the occasion.
The IECC complex, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 2,700 crore, is India’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination, covering an area of about 123 acres.
The complex includes a grand Convention Centre, designed to host large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other prestigious events. It boasts multiple meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, an amphitheatre, and a business center, making it capable of hosting a wide range of events.
The architectural design of the Convention Centre is inspired by Indian traditions, showcasing the country’s cultural heritage while embracing modern facilities. The building’s shape is derived from the Shankha (conch shell), and its various walls and facades depict elements of India’s traditional art and culture.
The Convention Centre’s multi-purpose hall and plenary hall can accommodate up to seven thousand people, surpassing the seating capacity of the Sydney Opera House. Additionally, the complex features a 5G-enabled fully Wi-Fi-covered campus, 10G Intranet connectivity, and advanced AV systems with huge-sized video walls.
The IECC complex also includes seven state-of-the-art exhibition halls, offering versatile spaces for hosting exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events, representing a testimony to modern engineering and architectural prowess.
The project revitalized the old and outdated facilities at Pragati Maidan and is hailed as a major step towards providing world-class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in India.
