Opposition Parties Hold Joint Meeting in Bengaluru, BJP Takes Jibe at Congress

During the two-day joint meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi took a dig at the Congress party, stating that while Congress used to be against alliances, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been in favor of them.

Speaking to ANI, Naqvi highlighted that Congress had a history of opposing alliances, whereas PM Modi has consistently supported them. He further mentioned that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) continues to grow, emphasizing that PM Modi has worked for the welfare of all sections of society. The opposition parties are aiming to form a united front to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In Bengaluru, large posters and banners were displayed on Race Course Road to welcome leaders from various opposition parties for the joint meeting at the Taj West End Hotel in the capital city of Karnataka.

The Congress party has garnered support from 26 parties for the second opposition unity meeting, focusing on countering the BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The first opposition unity meeting took place in Patna last month.

The formal opposition meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, commencing at 11 am and continuing until 4 pm. Party leader Sonia Gandhi will also be present at the gathering. An informal meeting is set for 6 pm, followed by a dinner at 8 pm.

Several committees are expected to be formed during the meeting to address various issues concerning the alliance. Deliberations will take place within these committees, and the possibility of creating different groups and sub-groups will be explored.
