Online Nominations Open for Padma Awards 2024 Until September 15, MHA Announces

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has declared that online nominations and recommendations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2024, which will be announced on Republic Day in 2024, will remain open until September 15. The Padma Awards, including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are esteemed civilian awards in India. Established in 1954, these awards are presented annually on Republic Day.

The nomination process for Padma Awards commenced on May 1, and interested individuals can submit their nominations through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in). These awards aim to recognize outstanding work and exceptional achievements or service in various fields and disciplines, such as Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science, Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade, and Industry.

Padma Awards are open to all individuals regardless of their race, occupation, position, or gender. However, government servants, including those working in Public Sector units, except for Doctors and Scientists, are ineligible for these awards. The government is dedicated to transforming the Padma Awards into a platform that represents the aspirations of the people, and citizens are encouraged to submit nominations and recommendations, including self-nominations.

The MHA emphasized the importance of identifying talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, including women, weaker sections of society, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and people with disabilities (divyang persons), who are engaged in selfless service to society. The nominations and recommendations should include all the relevant details specified in the format available on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, along with a narrative citation of up to 800 words highlighting the distinguished and exceptional achievements and service of the recommended person in their respective field.

Additional information and guidelines can be found under the “Awards and Medals” section on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards Portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in). The government encourages active participation from the public to ensure deserving individuals receive recognition for their remarkable contributions.
