Nigeria and India have officially signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors. The agreements covering cultural exchange, survey cooperation, and customs collaboration were formalized during a Friday ceremony in Abuja.
The MoUs were signed by Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dumoma Ahmed, and India’s Secretary of Economic Relations, Dammu Ravi, representing their respective countries.
In his address at the ceremony, Ambassador Ahmed highlighted the strong, enduring partnership between Nigeria and India, pointing to their shared history, cultural connections, and mutual commitment to democracy and economic growth. He emphasized that the agreements mark a significant step in deepening the two nations’ relationship, building on previous diplomatic engagements, such as President Bola Tinubu’s participation in the recent G20 Summit and the planned visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ahmed stressed the importance of effectively implementing the MoUs to unlock their full potential, urging both nations to collaborate closely to ensure the agreements lead to tangible benefits. He commended the negotiating teams from both countries for their efforts in reaching this important milestone.
“These MoUs are not just formal agreements; they are symbols of our shared vision for growth, innovation, and sustainable development,” Ahmed said. “The success of these agreements will rely not only on the commitments made today but also on the continued dedication to their implementation for the betterment of our people.”
The signing of these MoUs further underscores the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and India, with both countries looking to expand their cooperation across multiple fronts.
