Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly Elections: Voter Turnout Updates

Voting commenced on Wednesday for the Maharashtra assembly elections (single-phase) and the second phase of the Jharkhand assembly elections.

Maharashtra:

As of 9 am, Maharashtra recorded a voter turnout of 6.61%. Here are some key turnout details from across the state:

  • Gadchiroli, a naxal-affected district, had the highest turnout at 12.33%.
  • Osmanabad recorded the lowest turnout at 4.85%.
  • Key cities and districts:
  • Mumbai city: 6.25%
  • Mumbai Suburban: 7.88%
  • Nagpur: 6.86%
  • Pune: 5.53%
  • Kolhapur: 7.38%
  • Nashik: 6.89%
  • Ratnagiri: 9.30%
  • Latur: 5.91%

In Mumbai, constituencies like Dharavi saw a very low turnout of 4.71%, while Malabar Hill recorded 8.31%. Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule urged voters to come out in large numbers, emphasizing the importance of voter participation.

Jharkhand:

In Jharkhand, the second phase of voting for the state assembly elections saw a 12.71% turnout by 9 am. Notable details include:

  • Pakur had the highest turnout at 16.12%.
  • Bokaro recorded the lowest turnout at 12.48%.

Babulal Marandi, Jharkhand BJP Chief, expressed confidence that the BJP-NDA alliance would secure more than 51 seats and form the next government, citing dissatisfaction with the current ruling party.

Election Overview:

  • In Maharashtra, voting began for 288 assembly seats, and in Jharkhand, voting continues for 38 remaining seats.
