Global AI Summit in Kochi to Catalyze IBM’s Initiative in the Region

In a significant stride towards positioning Kochi as India’s central hub for AI-assisted technology, State Industry Minister P Rajeeve and Department Principal Secretary Suman Billa engaged in discussions with IBM India on Tuesday. The outcome of these talks was an agreement in principle to establish IBM’s AI hub in the city.

Global Artificial Intelligence Summit to Elevate Kochi’s Status

As part of this strategic initiative, the Kerala government, led by Rajeeve, announced plans to host a Global Artificial Intelligence Summit in Kochi later this year. Following discussions with IBM India’s Senior Vice President (Products), Dinesh Nirmal, Minister Rajeeve expressed optimism about Kochi evolving into a magnet for top technology professionals globally, foreseeing a significant impact on both IT and employment.

Potential Benefits and Industry Expansion

Rajeeve emphasized the potential benefits for the new generation in IT, anticipating a surge in IBM staff numbers in Kochi. IBM’s decision to make Kochi its AI hub is anticipated to attract other industry players. The second phase expansion of Infopark will complement this initiative, bolstering facilities for IBM’s ambitious projects.

Focus on Generative AI

The proposed Kochi hub will focus on generative AI, distinguishing itself beyond generic AI applications. Already providing AI services to international giants like Boeing, IBM aims to ensure Boeing’s participation in the upcoming AI Summit, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Collaborative Efforts and Summit Preparation

The Global AI Summit, organized in collaboration with the State’s Department of Industry, will witness cooperation from IT Parks, Kerala Startup Mission, Digital University, and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) will present preparations aimed at establishing Kochi as the country’s principal AI hub.

Samsung Collaboration and Semiconductor Manufacturing Consideration

The discussions also explored potential collaboration with Samsung on semiconductor manufacturing and chip design. Keltron CMD N Narayana Moorthy participated in the meeting through videoconferencing, indicating the government’s commitment to exploring diverse avenues for technological advancement. (ANI)
