Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – The Kerala government has announced an investigation into the controversial creation of a WhatsApp group specifically for Hindu IAS officers, following a complaint lodged by an IAS officer alleging that his personal number was hacked to form the group. State Industries Minister P. Rajeeve made the announcement on Monday, calling the incident “serious” and expressing concern over community-based divisions.
The IAS officer reported the hacking incident to the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner, asserting that his WhatsApp number was used to establish a religious group without his consent. According to sources close to the officer, members from various communities were added to the group, which was labeled as a Hindu community group. The officer promptly dismantled the group upon discovering the situation.
Minister Rajeeve emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating, “The government will look into this issue. There is a general code of conduct for IAS officers, which falls under the Public Administration department. We are currently examining the situation. Let’s review and determine what needs to be done.”
The incident has raised alarms about potential communal divisions within the civil service, prompting calls for thorough scrutiny. The Kerala government aims to uphold the integrity and professionalism expected of IAS officers, regardless of their personal beliefs or affiliations.
As the investigation unfolds, it underscores the challenges of maintaining communal harmony in a diverse society, especially within the ranks of public servants entrusted with governance and public administration.
