JD(S) Leader HD Revanna Detained by SIT in Karnataka Over Kidnapping Allegations

HD Revanna, a prominent leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) party, was taken into custody by Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials in Karnataka on Saturday in connection with a kidnapping case filed against him at the KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru.

The arrest comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings related to an alleged “obscene videos” case, where a special court for People’s Representative in Bengaluru previously rejected the interim bail application of HD Revanna and JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.

Justice Santosh Gajanana Bhat’s bench of the People’s Representative Court in Bengaluru denied the interim bail application of both JD(S) leaders, while HD Revanna faces charges of kidnapping in connection with the same case.

The accusations stem from a complaint filed by the son of a woman who allegedly faced abduction and sexual abuse. The complainant asserted that his mother, a former housemaid at HD Revanna’s residence, was subjected to sexual exploitation, as depicted in a video allegedly involving incumbent MP Prajwal Revanna.

Following the video’s revelation, the woman went missing, prompting her son to file a kidnapping complaint against HD Revanna and Babanna. The FIR, registered by KR Nagar police, lists HD Revanna as accused number one and Babanna as accused number two, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The legal proceedings come amidst a broader investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation against HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna, initiated by a Special Investigative Team (SIT) constituted by the Karnataka government.

The FIR, filed at the KR Nagar police station, encompasses charges under IPC sections 376(2)(N), 506, 354A(1), 354(B), 354(c), along with relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act, pertaining to sexual harassment and misconduct.

The case adds to the ongoing legal challenges faced by the JD(S) leader, who was previously booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28. These developments unfold against the backdrop of heightened scrutiny and legal action, underscoring the complexities within Karnataka’s political landscape.
