Jaya Bachchan Expresses Views on Gender Roles and Chivalry in Navya Naveli Nanda’s Vodcast

In the latest episode of Navya Naveli Nanda’s vodcast, titled ‘What The Hell Navya 2’ and themed ‘Macho Myths and Modern Men,’ veteran actor Jaya Bachchan shared her perspective on gender roles, specifically addressing the practice of men paying on dates.

In the episode, Navya discussed contemporary notions of independence among women, highlighting instances where some may feel offended when men offer to pay on dates. Jaya Bachchan interjected, expressing her disagreement with such sentiments, stating, “How stupid of those women. You should let the men pay.”

As the conversation unfolded, Navya raised questions about where to draw the line between independence and traditional gestures of chivalry. Shweta Bachchan joined the discussion, asking Navya’s brother Agastya if he opens doors for people.

Jaya Bachchan reiterated her stance, emphasizing the importance of chivalry. Agastya offered a nuanced perspective, distinguishing between genuine politeness and toxic behavior. He emphasized that actions like opening doors or offering to pay should stem from a desire to be kind rather than asserting dominance.

Jaya Bachchan, known for her illustrious career, was last seen in Karan Johar’s directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,’ featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi.
