Jaishankar Highlights India’s Strategic Ties with Luxembourg, Neighbourhood Policy, and Stance on Pakistan

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has underscored India’s strong partnership with Luxembourg, reiterated its role as a reliable neighbour in South Asia, and described the country’s relationship with Pakistan as an “exception” marked by persistent security concerns.

Speaking during his six-day visit to France and Luxembourg, Jaishankar described Luxembourg as a “very important” partner, particularly in shaping India’s broader ties with the European Union. He expressed optimism that cooperation could expand in areas such as fintech, space, artificial intelligence, and digital technology. Jaishankar also highlighted growing trade, investment, and talent mobility between the two countries as a foundation for deepening collaboration.

On India’s neighbourhood policy, he emphasized the country’s role as a dependable partner for South Asian nations. Citing India’s assistance during disasters like cyclones in Sri Lanka and earthquakes in Myanmar and Afghanistan, as well as vaccine support during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaishankar said India has earned a reputation for providing critical aid and stabilizing the region during crises.

Addressing India’s complex relationship with Pakistan, Jaishankar termed it an “exception” due to Islamabad’s history of supporting terrorist training camps in urban areas. He criticized Pakistan for attempting to normalize such activities and noted that India’s policies toward its neighbour are now shaped by decades of this challenging reality.

Jaishankar’s remarks reinforce India’s dual approach: strengthening strategic international partnerships while maintaining a firm and realistic stance on regional security and counterterrorism concerns.
