Iran Seizes Israeli-Linked MSC ARIES Ship Near Strait of Hormuz

According to a report by The Times of Israel citing Iranian news agency, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy detained the MSC ARIES container ship, which is linked to Israel, near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday.

The vessel in question, the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, is owned by Zodiac Maritime, a London-based company. Zodiac Maritime is part of the Zodiac Group, owned by Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.

As per The Times of Israel, the MSC Aries was last observed on Friday heading towards the Strait of Hormuz near Dubai. Currently, it is navigating through the Persian Gulf, as tracked by the Marine Traffic ship tracking site.

Tensions have heightened between Iran and the West amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

US President Joe Biden, expressing concern about the situation, stated today that he anticipates an Iranian attack on Israel “sooner than later.” This comes in the wake of Tehran’s vow for retaliation following Israeli airstrikes on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, which resulted in the elimination of three senior military figures.

The United States has been on heightened alert for a significant retaliatory strike from Iran against Israel, particularly following Israel’s strike on an Iranian diplomatic compound in Syria last week, resulting in the demise of three Iranian generals.

Biden, who recently cautioned about the threat of a “significant attack” from Iran on Israel, is closely monitoring developments with his national security team.

In response to the escalating tensions, several nations, including India, Britain, and France, have issued updated travel advisories for their government personnel in Israel and Iran.

“We are closely monitoring the situation,” said John Kirby, spokesperson for the US National Security Council, while refraining from specifying the anticipated timing of the threat.
