As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, the Indian Navy confirmed that the Indian Navy vessel INS Trikand remained on a mission deployment in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The deployment of INS Trikand aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) and contributes to regional maritime security, ensuring safe trade movement.
In a tweet, the Indian Navy highlighted the significance of INS Trikand’s presence, stating, “Indian Navy’s stealth frigate #INSTrikand mission deployed in the Persian Gulf & Gulf of Oman, contributing to #maritimesecurity in the region, ensuring safe movement of trade & realizing the Hon’ble PM @narendramodi’s vision of #SAGAR.”
SAGAR, India’s strategic strategy for the Indian Ocean unveiled in 2015, emphasizes deepening economic and security cooperation with maritime neighbors while assisting in building their maritime security capabilities. The importance of marine cooperation, commons, and security has gained recognition.
In June, the first edition of the trilateral maritime exercise between India, France, and the UAE took place in the Gulf of Oman. The exercise involved a wide range of naval operations, including surface warfare, tactical firing and drills, and advanced air defense exercises. The Indian Navy’s tweet read, “Maiden #India-#France-#UAE trilateral #MaritimePartnershipExercise commenced #07Jun in the Gulf of Oman. #INSTarkash & French Ship #FSSurcouf both with integral helos, French Rafale aircraft & UAE Navy MPA are participating in the exercise.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi began the final leg of his two-nation tour as he arrived in Abu Dhabi for an official visit. Upon his arrival, he received a ceremonial welcome at the airport and held a meeting with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude on Twitter, posting, “Grateful to Crown Prince HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for welcoming me at the airport today.”
