India Cup Golf Tournament Kicks Off at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos

The much-anticipated India Cup golf tournament, hosted by the Indian Golfers Foundation, officially tees off today at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos. This year’s edition promises an exciting week filled with engaging activities and competitive spirit.

According to Aby Matthew, chairman of the organizing committee, the tournament will commence with a Caddies and Pros Day, followed by a vibrant Ladies’ round scheduled for Tuesday, November 5. Matthew expressed the foundation’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with the Nigerian community, stating, “Our growing partnership with the Nigerian community is one that we cherish, and this yearly tournament offers the opportunity to celebrate and deepen what binds us together.”

The tournament continues on Wednesday, November 6, with members of Ikoyi Club participating in an Indian Community-sponsored kitty. Invited sponsors and their guest players will compete on Friday, November 8, alongside a distinguished group of veterans from the Ikoyi Club Golf section, all vying for the lowest gross and net scores.

“We have managed to curate an event that is arguably the most anticipated on the club’s golf calendar; hence, we have to do all we can to meet the expectations of participants who look forward to being part of it year after year,” added Matthew.

This year’s tournament boasts strong support from loyal sponsors, with Matthew highlighting its rich tradition and the excitement of new surprises for participants. The closing round is set for Saturday, November 9, culminating in an 18-hole contest featuring club members who qualified through an elimination tournament held earlier this month. This contest will be followed by a gala dinner celebrating the participants.

The India Cup is primarily a gross event, although net players will also receive recognition, alongside various ancillary prizes for achievements such as longest drives and nearest to the pin. Notably, the first prize for both the lowest gross and lowest net winners in the men’s category includes a Business Class return ticket on Emirates Airlines and a three-day fully paid stay in Dubai.

Additionally, players will have the chance to win a brand-new car for any hole-in-one scored during the competition days, adding an extra layer of excitement to the tournament.

As the tournament unfolds, anticipation builds for what promises to be an exceptional celebration of golf and community spirit.
