India Achieves Historic Lunar Milestone with Chandrayaan-3’s Successful Landing

Celebrations erupted in India as the nation accomplished a historic achievement by becoming the first country to land a spacecraft near the South pole of the moon. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat hailed the momentous occasion, likening it to an “Amrit Varsha,” or a shower of nectar, during this auspicious time.

“In this Amrit Kaal, we have witnessed a true moment of Amrit Varsha. Now we should work toward our duty…” remarked the RSS chief during an interview with ANI.

Mohan Bhagwat, along with countless others, was glued to their television screens, watching the live telecast of the Chandrayaan-3’s lander module Vikram’s soft landing on the lunar surface.

The achievement was met with resounding applause at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters in Bengaluru as the lander Vikram executed a safe and gentle landing. S Somanath, the head of ISRO, proudly declared, “India is on the Moon.”

Even as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, he managed to watch the live telecast of the momentous event. As Vikram’s touchdown on the moon’s surface was confirmed, a wide smile adorned the Prime Minister’s face as he proudly waved the tricolour, embodying the sense of national accomplishment.

The Vikram lander’s controlled descent showcased meticulous precision, with its countdown gradually decreasing as it approached the moon’s surface, finally touching down safely.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in India’s space journey, signifying the culmination of ISRO’s years of dedication and hard work. The successful landing of the Vikram lander, carrying the Pragyaan rover within its payload, positions India as the fourth country in the world, following the US, China, and Russia, to successfully execute a lunar landing. Notably, India secures its place in the record books by being the first to accomplish a landing on the moon’s southern hemisphere.

The remarkable feat not only elicits national pride but also showcases India’s growing prowess in the realm of space exploration, further solidifying the nation’s reputation as a formidable player in the field of space technology and innovation.
