Income Tax Department Recovers Rs 351 Crore in Cash during Raids on Odisha-based Company Linked to Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu

The Income Tax department has successfully seized a cash amount totaling Rs 351 crore during its ongoing searches on Boudh Distillery Private Limited, an Odisha-based company allegedly linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu, according to sources.

The searches, initiated on December 6, are still in progress and cover 25 premises in Odisha and Jharkhand. As part of the search operation, the Income Tax department completed the counting of currency in 176 bags, depositing the seized amount to the Government Treasury in accordance with official procedures.

During the raids on properties connected to Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu, significant stacks of currency notes, exceeding Rs 300 crore, were confiscated, as per sources.

Union Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress and members of the INDIA bloc for their silence on the raids, expressing surprise at the substantial cash recovery from an MP’s residence. He remarked, “After independence, such a large amount of cash has been seized from an MP’s house. Crores of rupees have been recovered, but the whole INDIA alliance is silent on this corruption.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commented on the situation, highlighting the recovery of Rs 200 crores in cash from various locations associated with a business group allegedly linked to Dheeraj Sahu. PM Modi emphasized that the looted money must be returned, asserting, “Every penny looted from people will have to be returned.”

However, the Congress distanced itself from the cash recovered at the MP’s home, stating that only Dheeraj Sahu could explain the presence of significant amounts of cash at his business. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh affirmed, “The Indian National Congress is in no way connected with the businesses of Dheeraj Sahu, MP. Only he can explain, and should explain, how huge amounts of cash have been reportedly unearthed by the income-tax authorities from his properties.”
