As of 5 PM, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a voter turnout of 71.16%, while Chhattisgarh saw 68.15% voter participation on the 70 seats that went to the polls in the second phase of the state elections, according to the latest data from the Election Commission.
In Madhya Pradesh, the voter turnout was 60.52% till 3 pm for all 230 assembly seats. By 1 pm, the voter turnout in the state had reached 45.40%. Voting commenced at 7 am for the 230 Assembly seats, determining the fate of over 2,500 candidates.
Chhattisgarh reported a voter turnout of 55.31% by 3 pm in the second phase of the Assembly polls. The turnout was 38.22% till 1 pm. Chhattisgarh has a total of 90 seats, with 20 seats going to the polls in the first phase on November 7.
The polling time is from 8 am to 5 pm, except for nine booths in the Naxal-affected Bindranawagarh seat in Rajim district, where voting occurred from 7 am to 3 pm. Over 18,800 polling stations were set up for the second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh, featuring 958 candidates across the 70 seats.
The main contest in both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh is between the Congress and BJP. These polls, occurring almost six months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, hold significance for both parties. The results, along with those from Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, will be counted on December 3.
