Heroic Canine Kent Sacrifices Life Shielding Handler in Jammu and Kashmir Encounter

In a display of unwavering loyalty and bravery, a six-year-old female Labrador named Kent, serving in the 21 Army Dog Unit, made the ultimate sacrifice while shielding her handler during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri on Tuesday.

Kent was leading a group of soldiers in pursuit of fleeing terrorists when they came under heavy gunfire, and she tragically lost her life at the scene. The Indian Army’s Public Relations Officer in Jammu confirmed this heroic act through an official statement.

The courageous Labrador was at the forefront of ‘Operation Sujaligala’, demonstrating her commitment and valor in the line of duty. In the same encounter, one terrorist and an army jawan lost their lives, with three additional jawans, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), sustaining injuries.

The encounter took place in the Narllah area of Rajouri district, situated in the Jammu region. During the operation, war-like equipment, including an AK series assault rifle with magazines, was recovered by the security forces.

This incident follows a recent operation in the Reasi district, where the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police jointly eliminated a terrorist threat. Additionally, the Indian Army successfully defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the same region on September 3, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.

Kent’s courageous sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the dedication and bravery displayed not only by our soldiers but also by their loyal canine companions in the defense of our nation.
