Heavy Rains and Flooding Claim 10 Lives in Haryana, Toll Expected to Rise

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of Haryana announced on Wednesday that 10 individuals have lost their lives in floods caused by relentless rainfall in the state. He expressed concern that the death toll may rise further, with two people currently missing. Additionally, significant damage has been inflicted upon livestock and houses. The Chief Minister assured that a comprehensive assessment of the losses would be conducted.

During a press briefing held after conducting an aerial survey of the rain-affected areas, Khattar declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased. He emphasized that the incessant rainfall over the past four days not only impacted Haryana but also led to flood situations in districts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.

Among the affected districts, Ambala has been hit the hardest by the floods. Khattar revealed that 40 villages in Ambala are facing severe flooding. The state government has mobilized resources and sought assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army to manage the crisis. Khattar assured that all possible measures are being taken to address the situation and mitigate the impact of the floods.

Efforts are underway to assess the damage caused by the heavy rainfall, including the loss of human and animal lives as well as the destruction of properties. The district deputy commissioners have been instructed to evaluate the extent of the damage and submit detailed reports.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh has also experienced severe consequences due to heavy rains over the past few days. The state witnessed landslides, power disruptions, road blockages, and bridge damage, further exacerbating the challenges posed by the inclement weather.

Authorities continue to closely monitor the situation and take proactive measures to provide relief and support to affected areas.
