Former Karnataka CM and JD(S) leader, HD Kumaraswamy, accused the state government of orchestrating a character assassination campaign against party leader HD Revanna, currently in judicial custody over a kidnapping case. In a statement to ANI, Kumaraswamy criticized the government for allegedly misusing its power to impede a fair investigation.
Addressing concerns over the inquiry’s impartiality, Kumaraswamy announced plans to submit a memorandum to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, accompanied by supporting evidence, urging action against the government’s alleged bias. He claimed the ongoing investigation resembled a partisan endeavor led by individuals with vested interests, dubbing it the “Siddaramaiah Investigation Team and Shivakumar Investigation Team.”
Earlier, during a press conference, Kumaraswamy denounced the circulation of obscene videos purportedly linked to Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, son of HD Revanna. He accused police officers of deliberately disseminating the footage and demanded a CBI probe into the matter. Allegations were also leveled against SIT officials, whom Kumaraswamy claimed were aligned with politicians DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah.
Highlighting concerns over impartiality and procedural integrity, Kumaraswamy urged for DK Shivakumar’s removal from the cabinet, citing alleged involvement in efforts to tarnish the victims’ reputations. He insisted on the transfer of the case to the CBI for a comprehensive investigation.
HD Revanna’s arrest on May 4 in connection with a kidnapping case, linked to the circulation of obscene videos, has fueled political tensions. Both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna are subjects of a probe by a Special Investigative Team (SIT), amidst allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation lodged by a former household employee.
The Karnataka government’s formation of an SIT to investigate the obscene video case has further intensified scrutiny surrounding the legal proceedings.
