The Rouse Avenue Court has issued a fresh notice to the in-charge of the record room at Karkardooma Court, directing them to produce the trial court records related to the Pul Bangash killings during the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots. This development comes after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently filed a supplementary charge sheet against former Union Minister and Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. The matter is currently at the stage of consideration based on the charge sheet. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vidhi Gupta Anand issued the notice, with a deadline for record submission set for 11 am on Friday.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the records have been located, and the court directed the record room in-charge to comply with the notice. The CBI informed the court that a reminder had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory Division (FSL) to expedite the process of forensic examination of Jagdish Tytler’s voice sample. The hearing was adjourned until Friday morning.
On the previous hearing date, the court had requested the trial court records pertaining to the case. Subsequently, on June 30, the Rouse Avenue Court summoned the trial court records and the CBI FIR regarding the Pul Bangash case from Karkardooma Court. The CBI had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Jagdish Tytler in relation to the matter. The ACMM had summoned the record room in-charge along with the case file for the next hearing.
During the proceedings, senior advocate HS Phoolka, representing the victims of the riots, urged the court to expedite the process of obtaining the FSL report. The ACMM acknowledged that the CBI had filed a closure report in 2007 and that a charge sheet had been filed against another accused, necessitating a review of the trial court records.
The supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI on May 20 pertains to the killing of three Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Pul Bangash area. Jagdish Tytler, a Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, was named as an accused in the charge sheet. The case was registered by the CBI in November 2005, and during the investigation, evidence emerged indicating Tytler’s alleged role in instigating and provoking the mob that resulted in the burning of Gurudwara Pul Bangash and the killing of three Sikh individuals, as well as the looting and destruction of shops.
The court’s efforts to obtain trial court records are crucial for the examination of the case, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the events surrounding the Pul Bangash killings and the alleged involvement of Jagdish Tytler.
