At least four Nigerians have been arrested in India for drug-related offenses in separate operations carried out between Thursday and Saturday, according to Indian media reports.
The suspects, identified as Tanguy Nguessan (37), Touchi, Henry, and IK Prince, were arrested in different parts of the country during coordinated anti-narcotics operations.
Tanguy Nguessan was apprehended in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara East by the Tulinj Police Detection Team and the Anti-Terrorism Cell, following a tip-off. Police recovered 60 grams of cocaine, valued at roughly ₹12.6 million (about N205 million). Nguessan remains in custody as authorities investigate his network.
In another operation, Touchi and Henry were arrested over the trafficking of MD drugs in Rajasthan. Touchi was apprehended in Faridabad and Henry in Delhi. Both were reportedly living in India illegally on expired visas and using forged documents. Police also recovered a list of alleged drug dealers operating across Jaipur and other regions of Rajasthan.
Separately, IK Prince, described as a major drug trafficking kingpin, was arrested in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area and later remanded in Mathura court. He was linked to a heroin operation after two suspects, Waqar and Faisal, revealed they supplied him with 1.045 kilograms of heroin in October. Authorities recovered 1.8 kilograms of heroin from Prince, valued between ₹6 and ₹8 crore.
Indian authorities have notified the Nigerian Embassy and are investigating the broader network connected to the suspects. These arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of Nigerians living abroad, following recent detentions of over 140 Nigerians in Ghana over alleged fraud and other crimes.
