Emma Raducanu Moves on from Dubai Incident, Gears Up for Indian Wells with Extra Security

British tennis star Emma Raducanu is set to return to action at Indian Wells on March 5, determined to move past a distressing incident at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The 22-year-old, who is currently without a full-time coach, will continue working with Jane O’Donoghue and Roman Kelecic, while Welsh, an LTA academy coach, joins her team temporarily for the prestigious Indian Wells tournament, often referred to as the unofficial fifth Grand Slam.

Extra Security Following Dubai Stalker Incident

Raducanu’s preparation for Indian Wells comes with heightened security measures after an unsettling episode in Dubai, where she broke down in tears during a match against Karolina Muchova. Reports later revealed that she had been followed across four countries by a man displaying ‘fixated behavior’ in the crowd. The individual, who allegedly handed her a letter in an off-site encounter, was swiftly removed, handed a restraining order by Dubai police, and banned from future tournaments.

In response, Indian Wells organizers have offered Raducanu up to five extra security guards to ensure her safety. Bob Campbell, vice-president of security for the WTA Tour and a former U.S. Secret Service agent, is overseeing the arrangements. The additional security personnel would accompany Raducanu on-site at Indian Wells and potentially off-site to her accommodation.

Coaching Uncertainty Continues

Since Nick Cavaday stepped down due to health reasons after the Australian Open, Raducanu has not appointed a full-time coach. Former British No.1 Laura Robson recently stated that Raducanu is in no rush to make a decision, as top-tier traveling coaches are limited.

“She’s not going to hire someone just for the sake of it. It has to be the right person, and there aren’t many great coaches available to travel full-time,” Robson told Sky Sports.

Focus on Indian Wells Return

Despite the off-court turmoil, Raducanu remains focused on her comeback. Strength and conditioning coach Yutaka Nakamura will also join her in California as she looks to build momentum at Indian Wells.

With security concerns addressed and a temporary coaching setup in place, all eyes will be on Raducanu as she looks to reclaim form on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
