DRI Mumbai Seizes Nearly 10 kg of Cocaine, Apprehends International Drug Smuggling Syndicate

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in India, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai announced the seizure of 9.829 kg of cocaine, valued at approximately 100 crores on the illicit market. Two female passengers, one Indonesian and the other Thai, arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, were apprehended in connection with the operation, according to a press release.

Following intensive interrogation of the suspects and swift data analysis, it was uncovered that the narcotics were intended for smuggling by a syndicate operating out of Delhi and its surrounding areas.

While one team of DRI officers based in Mumbai initiated surveillance and began monitoring syndicate activities, another team was dispatched to Delhi to apprehend other key syndicate members, as detailed in the release.

After arriving in Delhi, DRI officers conducted overnight surveillance and successfully apprehended an African national suspected to be the recipient of the seized substance.

In collaboration with local authorities, a trap was set in Greater Noida, leading to the identification and subsequent apprehension of the syndicate’s mastermind. During the interception, the mastermind resisted arrest and engaged in physical altercation, resulting in minor injuries to both the officers and the accused. However, in a dramatic pursuit, DRI officers managed to capture the Nigerian mastermind and his accomplice.

Both the members of the international drug smuggling syndicate, along with the two passengers, were subsequently arrested by DRI Mumbai under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as stated in the release.
