DMK MP Mocks BJP’s Election Wins in Hindi Heartland States

During a session in the Lok Sabha, DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following its successful performance in the Assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. He asserted that people should recognize the BJP’s electoral victories primarily in the Hindi heartland states, referring to them as ‘Gaumutra states.’

Participating in the debate on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Senthilkumar commented, “When they (BJP) are not able to win a state, they make it a Union Territory where they can have control over the governor and run governance through them.”

He added, “People of this country should think that the power of the BJP is winning elections mainly in the heartland states of Hindi and what we generally call as the ‘Gaumutra states.'”

Responding to the statement, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai criticized the level of discourse by the ruling DMK party. He highlighted the arrogance and divisive remarks made by DMK members, emphasizing that such behavior could lead to their downfall.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, buoyed by the BJP’s electoral victories, took a swipe at the opposition, urging them to be at peace with their “arrogance, lies, pessimism, and ignorance.” He cautioned people to remain vigilant against the opposition’s “divisive agenda” and anticipated more challenges in the future.

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Education Annapurna Devi dismissed the remarks made by the DMK MP, attributing them to a shallow mindset and jealousy towards PM Modi’s popularity. The recent election results saw the Congress losing in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to the BJP but securing victory in Telangana.
