Delhi Police Arrest Two in Connection with Fatal Shooting at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital

DELHI, India — Delhi Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the recent fatal shooting of a 32-year-old patient at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The victim, identified as Riyazuddin, was mistakenly attacked in ward number 24 of the hospital, police said on Monday.

According to the initial investigation, the attackers had intended to kill a rival gangster of the Hasim Baba gang, who had been admitted to the same ward. Instead, they mistakenly shot Riyazuddin, who was on the bed opposite the intended target.

The suspects, Faiz (20) and Farhan, were apprehended in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, respectively. CCTV footage and technical surveillance revealed that four individuals had entered the hospital to carry out the attack.

“Faiz was caught in Uttar Pradesh’s Loni, while Farhan was apprehended in Delhi’s Seelampur,” police reported. It is believed that Faiz and Farhan did not fire the shots but were involved in providing a motorcycle to the four attackers.

The mastermind behind the murder, Faheem alias Badshah Khan, and the 18-year-old shooter remain at large. “We are interrogating Faiz and Farhan and will seek their police remand to identify the shooter. Our teams are working around the clock to apprehend the remaining suspects,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary.

Multiple police teams have been formed to investigate the case and identify the culprits. Surveillance footage, social media activity, and call records were instrumental in tracking down the suspects.

Following the shooting, doctors at the hospital have initiated an indefinite strike, demanding improved security measures. “Despite several appeals, there has been no response. The Resident Doctors’ Association prioritizes the safety and welfare of all hospital staff, patients, and their attendants,” a representative stated.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj responded to the incident, promising a security review of all hospitals and stating that negligence will not be tolerated.

The investigation is ongoing as police efforts continue to capture the remaining suspects involved in the case.
