DCW Chief Shares Disturbing Videos, Demands Action in Sexual Harassment Case

Swati Maliwal urges Delhi Police to file action taken report on alleged PG facility incident

Swati Maliwal, the chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), took to Twitter on Monday to share two disturbing videos and called upon the Delhi Police to provide an action taken report regarding an alleged sexual harassment complaint filed by female residents of a paying guest (PG) facility in the city.

The DCW had received a complaint stating that on the night of June 12, a female resident of the PG in North Delhi observed a youth outside the facility engaging in obscene behavior, including masturbation, while staring at her and her female friends from the balcony. Despite issuing a notice dated June 19 to the Delhi Police, seeking an action taken report in the matter, no response was received.

Today, DCW Chief Maliwal posted on Twitter that they had received two complaints regarding the same individual involved in lewd acts outside the PG. She shared CCTV footage of the incidents, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter.

“Thousands of women and girls live in PGs in Delhi, and their safety is of utmost importance. It has also been brought to my attention that this man has engaged in such obscene actions multiple times outside the same PG facility.

“Why are criminals so brazen in Delhi? Why is no action taken against them by the police initially? An FIR should be filed, and this man should be immediately arrested to deter such crimes,” she stated.

The DCW has now summoned the Delhi Police and requested an action taken report in the case. They have asked for a copy of the FIR, details of any arrests made, and an explanation for the delayed action.

The SHO of Maurice Nagar has been summoned to appear before the DCW on June 28 and provide an action taken report on the matter.

In April, a similar incident arose when a video allegedly showing a man masturbating in a Delhi Metro train surfaced. Maliwal issued notices to both the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro, condemning the video as “absolutely disgusting and sickening” and demanding strict action against the perpetrator.

It is important to note that the videos shared in April, including one showing two men engaged in oral sex on the Delhi Metro, cannot be independently verified.

According to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi had the highest number of crimes against women among the Union territories in 2021, with over 14,000 cases registered.
