Congress Leader Prithviraj Chavan Predicts Ajit Pawar’s Appointment as Maharashtra CM

On Monday, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan made a claim that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar, who recently took oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, will soon replace Eknath Shinde as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

In an interview with ANI, Chavan stated that he cannot reveal his sources, but analysis indicates that Ajit Pawar will become the Chief Minister around August 10. He pointed out that the disqualification matter of 40 MLAs is pending before the Speaker, and the Supreme Court is expected to give its decision within 90 days, which will conclude on or before August 10, allowing a chance for Pawar to take over as CM.

Chavan also questioned Eknath Shinde’s recent visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital, suggesting that it signals Shinde’s imminent replacement. He implied that PM Modi’s meeting with Shinde indicates a farewell gesture, and the decision on Shinde’s disqualification is anticipated to come soon due to alleged violations of the 10th Schedule of the Supreme Court.

Earlier this month, Ajit Pawar’s unexpected move to join hands with BJP-Shiv Sena and eight NCP MLAs altered the political landscape in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He has asserted himself as the ‘real NCP’ along with the support of NCP leaders like Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dilip Walse Patil. On the other hand, Sharad Pawar has asserted his leadership and expelled several leaders for ‘anti-party activities.’

Ajit Pawar’s political maneuver resembles Eknath Shinde’s previous move when he split the undivided Shiv Sena and collaborated with the BJP last year, resulting in the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and securing the Chief Minister’s post for himself.
