Bomb Threats Trigger Evacuations in Over 40 Delhi Schools, Police Launch Investigation

Over 40 schools in Delhi were targeted with bomb threat emails on Monday morning, prompting an immediate response from authorities and the evacuation of students as a precautionary measure. The threatening emails demanded a ransom of $30,000, warning of hidden bombs that could injure people if detonated.

The first reports came from Delhi Public School (DPS) in RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar. Several other schools, including Mother Mary’s School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School, also received similar threats, according to Delhi Police.

Details of the Threats

The emails, reportedly sent late on Sunday, claimed multiple small bombs were planted in the schools. The email stated:

“I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. The bombs are small and hidden very well. It will not cause much damage to the building, but many people will be injured when the bombs detonate. If I do not receive $30,000, I will detonate the bombs.”

Schools immediately initiated safety protocols, with messages sent to parents urging them to collect their children. For instance, Mother Mary’s School informed parents about the situation, reassuring them that buses would safely transport students to designated stops.

Political Reactions

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the central government, blaming it for failing to ensure law and order. On X (formerly Twitter), she remarked:

“The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so bad before. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi.”

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating:

“The people of Delhi have never seen such a bad state of law and order in Delhi before. Amit Shah ji should come and answer the people of Delhi.”

Security Measures

Delhi Police have launched an investigation into the threats and are working to trace the origin of the emails. Security personnel have been deployed to the affected schools, and bomb squads have been conducting thorough inspections.

Authorities are treating the threats with utmost seriousness, although no explosives have been found so far. The incident underscores rising concerns about public safety and the adequacy of security measures in the city.
