A BJP worker from Howrah’s South Panchala in West Bengal has come forward alleging a disturbing incident of sexual assault. On Friday, she claimed that during the polling, Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers dragged her out of the polling booth, assaulted her, and tore her clothes. The victim stated that she had to seek help from a nearby house to get clothes to wear. She filed an FIR in connection with the incident. However, the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Malviya has stated that the police investigation yielded no evidence or proof of the alleged incident.
Addressing the media, DGP Manoj Malviya disclosed that the police received an email on July 13, detailing the incident that supposedly took place on July 8. After receiving the email, the police urged the victim to file an official FIR. The authorities thoroughly investigated the matter and, despite visiting the place of the alleged incident on July 8, including the presence of police, central forces, and the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, no one reported the incident at the time.
The BJP MP from Hooghly, Locket Chatterjee, also broke down while recounting an alleged incident of sexual assault on a BJP candidate during the Bengal panchayat polls.
Additionally, a viral video from Manipur surfaced, showing two women being paraded naked, further fueling the already charged political atmosphere.
As the political tensions escalate between the BJP and TMC, the sexual assault allegations have added further complexity to the situation. The police’s statement of no evidence found may intensify the controversy and spark discussions on the importance of thorough investigations in such sensitive cases.
